Selânik, Musa Baba Tekkesi

Musa Baba Dervish Lodge was located within the city walls of Thessaloniki, in the neighborhood known by its name during the Ottoman period today's Terpsitheas square. Probably built in the 16th century, the dervish lodge is known to have had a tomb, a masjid, and a graveyard. Evliyâ Çelebi, who came to Thessaloniki in H. 1078 / M. 1668, describes the tomb of Musa Baba while numbering the places of visit in the city as follows: "At the foot of Kanlı Burgaz, Musa Baba is lying in a well-built dome covered with lead. In his small dervish lodge with a cypress tree, he has a few poor people in desperate poverty." Two old postcards of the dervish lodge from 1917 show an octagonal tomb covered with a dome and a small masjid. The masjid of the dervish lodge was converted into a church after the end of Turkish rule in Thessaloniki. This masjid has not survived to the present day; only the tomb remains from the dervish lodge. Musa Baba Tomb, which was repaired with EU funds in 2015, is well maintained and in good condition.
