In 1724, the Ottoman army re-conquered Yerevan and the city was rebuilt. Tbilisi Guard Recep Pasha had a mosque built in the castle in 1725. Along with the Recep Pasha Mosque, there were a total of 8 mosques in Yerevan, 2 of which were in the castle and 6 of them were in the outer quarters.
