Kefe, Ulu Câmii

According to the narration mentioned in the Saltuknâme written by Ebülhayr Rûmî in the 15th century; Sarı Saltuk, after conquering Kefe (13th century), built a fortress next to the bastion built by the Genoese with 300 abdal ghazis and a great mosque inside the fortress. After the death of Sarı Saltuk, this mosque was converted into a church, and after the Ottoman conquest of the region, it was turned into a mosque again. During the Ottoman period, the monument known as the Great Mosque in Fesodia is the Şehzade Süleyman Mosque, which was built during Sultan Suleiman's reign as a prince. It is understood from the old surveys of this temple, which has not survived to the present day, that it is a 16th century work with a single dome in the classical Ottoman architectural style (See: Feodosia, Grand (Suleiman) Mosque title). Due to its architectural features, we think that the Great Mosque mentioned in Saltuknâme and the Great Mosque of the Ottoman period are different works.
