Kavala, Palehor Köyü Câmii

In the Nuri Bey Farm in Palehor Village, 26 km west of Kavala, there was a mosque built by Ayse Hanım. In the population exchange liquidation documents, there is a record of the mosque belonging to the Palihor Village Foundation of the Pravişte District of the Dırama Liva of the Selanik Province. In the liquidation demand note, the characteristics of the mosque are written with the note “It is a newly built masonry and perfect dome and a minaret”. The same document also records that two shops in the bazaar were endowed to the mosque. After the exchange, the mosque built by Ayse Hanım was converted into an Orthodox church. The minaret was demolished and a bell tower was built in its place, and from the old photographs it can be seen that it was a modest village mosque with a wooden roof. The mosque, which was used as a church until 1968, was demolished on this date and the present St. Apostol Church was built in its place.
