Today, the completely abandoned village of Gâziler (Nikites) is located 35 km northeast of Kavala. In the exchange liquidation documents of 1924, Thessaloniki Province, Drama village were registered as Veterans' Village, subject to Sarışaban District, and today it is affiliated to Kavala. After the Turkish-Greek population exchange, the mosque of Gâziler Village was converted into an Orthodox church by the new inhabitants of the village with the decision of Metropolitan Chrysostomos, just like the other mosques in the region. The mosque, which was used as a church until 1955, fell out of use as the village deserted. The present Nikites Monastery was built on this site in 1969.
