Dırama, Lakaviçe Köyü Câmii

The village of Lakavitcha (Mikroklisoura) is located 47 km north of Drama. The mosque, whose date of construction and owner have not been identified, is located on a sloping land at the western end of the village. The harim of the mosque measures 6.20 x 8.95 meters and is a modest village mosque without a minaret. There is a blank epitaph on the entrance door. Like the mosques in other villages of Drama, after the population exchange (probably in 1924) it was dedicated to St. George and converted into a church. During this conversion, the center of the eastern façade was demolished and a stonewalled, semicircular apse was added here. One of the windows on the west façade was enlarged and turned into a door. When a new church was built in the village in 1950, the mosque fell out of use and today it is in ruins.
