Dırama, Gornova Köyü Câmii

The village of Vounoplagia, located 50 km northeast of Drama, was abandoned after the population exchange and is one of the uninhabited villages. The mosque, whose founder and when it was converted into a church could not be identified, consists of a harim built of stone walls measuring approximately 8.5x10.5 m and a narthex with a width of 3.5 m. The harim and the narthex are covered with a one-piece hipped roof. It is understood that in original form of the recently repaired work, there were two windows in two rows on the east and west facades. All the windows on the north and south facades and the lower windows on the east-west facades have been closed and it is illuminated only by 4 windows in the upper row on the east-west facades. The mihrab was removed and turned into a door and an apse with a radius of about 2.5 m was added to the qibla facade. We think that the village of Gornere reported by Ayverdi in c.4 p.218 is Gornova / Vounoplagia.
