St. Sophia Church, also called Kale Mosque or Bey Mosque, is the oldest Byzantine church in Drama. It was converted into a mosque following the conquest of the castle in 1294. In 05.06.1293 (28.06.1876) with the detail Hisar Mahallesi Kiliseden Mübeddel Câmi. After it was converted into a mosque, a minaret was built to the south of the building separately from the main structure. After 1924, the minaret of Kale Mosque, which was converted into a church again in 1924, was demolished up to its base, then an octagonal bell tower was added on the base.
